After several years on the trading floor of a major bank, we asked ourselves why treasurers pay disproportionate fees to investment banks for primary market transactions. After all, most arrangers do not offer any actual risk transfer (underwriting). This gave rise to the idea of a transparent, data-based marketplace that rationalizes asymmetric information and thus serves its participants rather than intermediaries.
